PRAGUE/EDEN ARENA - First defeat for Slavia in the 2017/18 Europa League campaign. The red & whites lost 0-2 to Villarreal in the game which celebrated the 125th anniversary of the club.
Manager Šilhavý has sent similar line-up against Villarreal as two weeks before in Spain. Just Bořil started instead of Frydrych in the defence and Stoch instead of Zmrhal on the left wing.

Slavia started well with an amazing support by the almost sold-out Eden Arena and also created first chances of the game. After 8 minutes Necid found Sýkora on the brink of the box, but he directed his shot only in the middle of the goal.

Some 4 minutes later Deli headed the ball above the crossbar after Stoch free-kick.

However Villarreal calmed down then and it was the Yellow Submarine who set the pace of the game in the rest of the first half.

At minute 15 Laštůvka punched away sharp cross from the left side, Carlos Bacca was the first to seize the ball and made it 1-0 for the guests with his rebound.

Slavia had their biggest chance of the opening half just two minutes later but Sýkora couldn’t hit the ball properly inside the box after Sobol cross and sent his shot off target.

After 23 minutes Trigueros’ dangerous effort was blocked by Bořil and Bacca sent the ball above the crossbar from inside the box just seconds later.

Also the second half presented some serious chances for Villarreal. At minute 57 Fornals wasted a 100% chance when he missed an open net from 5 meters after Soriano cross. Five minutes Later Laštůvka showed his skills by denying Bacca with his cross-shot from 16 meters.

But from the 65th minute on the game started to look different. Slavia locked Villareal on their own half and especially Tomáš Souček has created several good chances.

In the biggest one Souček found the ball on the far post after a cross from the left side but only hit Necid in front of the goal with his volley shot.

Just three minutes later Souček fired his shot from 15 meters right under the crossbar after Stoch clever pass, but Barbosa in the away goal denied him with a perfect save.

Villarreal added their second goal in the last minute before the added time. Cheryshev took the ball on the left side, run around Jugas and Simon Deli deflected his dangerous cross to Samsone into his own net.

Slavia have lost their first game in Europa League this season and dropped to the 3rd place of group A behind Astana. The red & whites play in Tel Aviv in three weeks and will conclude their autumn season home against Astana on December 7.
