Petr Ševčík scored Czech Goal of the Year 2019

Petr Ševčík’s strike against Chelsea in Europa League quarter-final second leg was awarded Czech Goal of the Year 2019.

Slavia were three goals down at Chelsea in UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg in April 2019 when Petr Ševčík scored two beautiful goals and considerably dramatized the game. Slavia lost 3-4 and were eliminated but Ševčík’s second strike, right-foot shot into the top left corner of Kepa’s net from 54th minute, was now awarded Czech Goal of the Year 2019.

“The second strike at Chelsea was undoubtedly the most beautiful in my career so far. I haven’t scored so many goals so I can remember them all. I know that the performance in the game at Chelsea wasn’t the best from my point of view, but those two goals made it look better,” Slavia midfielder said about his goal.

“It was quite a surprise for me though. I did not expect it to be goal of the year, maybe goal of the month in some fan’s poll. In this hard time every motivation for our work is good and I am glad I received this award,” Ševčík added.

Ševčík’s goal means that Slavia player has been awarded Goal of the Year for the third time in a row. In 2017 Josef Hušbauer’s strike against Maccabi Tel Aviv and in 2018 Miroslav Stoch’s goal against Dukla Prague won the award. In 2015 Milan Škoda won the award with his goal against Sparta.
