Slavia - BATE Borisov
PRAGUE/EDEN ARENA - Slavia defeated BATE in the first leg of UEFA Champions League 3rd qualifying round. BATE was down to ten men from 15th minute, but the narrow 1-0 victory was achieved only thanks to Škoda´s converted penalty kick.
Slavia started better and Danny fired his first shot just after seven minutes but his attempt was blocked by one of the defending players in front of the goal.

Key moment of the game came at minute 15. Yablonski pulled Frydrych down inside the penalty area, the referee blew the penalty and Milan Škoda converted from the spot. 1-0.

On top of that, the centre-back of BATE saw red card for his foul and the Belarussian side was one man down for the rest of the game.

Since that moment Slavia pressed their opponent and BATE focused solely on firm defence.

At minute 36, Michael Ngadeu could double the lead with his close-range shot but goalkeeper Scherbitski denied him with a perfect save and punched the ball over the crossbar.

For the rest of the game Slavia set the pace creating many chances. Just a few minutes into the second half Josef Hušbauer hit the woodwork after a fantastic dribble, but the ball rebounded from the goal line back on the pitch.

After an hour of the game, Danny tested Scherbitski’s attention with his long-range effort, but the BATE goalie managed to punch the ball away.

Ten minutes before the final whistle could Milan Škoda score his second but his promising header after van Buren’s cross only hit the far post.

Slavia thus defeated BATE 1-0 in the first leg of UEFA Champions league 3rd qualifying round. The second leg is played on Wednesday 2nd August at 8 pm (CET) in Barisaw.
