A sporting miracle, Boss says
"It is a reward for our work. Not only for players and coaching staff, but for the management and all others,” says Jindřich Trpišovský after a 2-0 win over Leicester City.
“We spent the opening seven or eight minutes without the ball because of Leicester’s high pressing. But then we grew into the game and we proved our quality in some parts of the second half.”
Forget the difference
“The team was well prepared in terms of defensive, we managed to eliminate the biggest threats of our opponent. We scored two goals and had more chances, but Leicester’s performance was great too and the referees did perfect job. It was a remarkable match; I was only missing the fans.”
“At the break the players knew they must opt for more clinical approach. I told them that we had taken part of the self-confidence from Leicester but that we had to get better for the second half. That we need to forget the difference between both clubs.”
A sporting miracle
“It was a sporting miracle, maybe similar to Leicester winning the Premier League. It is a shocking result for us too, the gap between Czech and English football is immense. It is unbelievable how we approached it, and it is a reward for all of us.”
“There are many highlights in my career. Winning in Marseille with Liberec, eliminating Sevilla with Slavia. I don’t want to compare, but defeating a club from English TOP 5, I cannot imagine better thing to come.”
Leicester showed us great respect
“I want to thank Leicester, the whole club, the team and the manager, for their approach. Even after the game they showed us great respect. It proves how big club Leicester City is. It was a real pleasure to be here.”
I would like to play against Rangers
“It is difficult to choose someone for the Europa League draw. But I would be happy if we could return to the Great Britain with Slavia once more. You cannot really choose between Tottenham, Arsenal or United, but I would like to play against Rangers as I haven’t been to Scotland yet. I also love the legendary stadiums, so, if I had to answer, I would choose Old Trafford.”
“Half a year ago we lost 1-3 to Be’er Sheva. And when some people told me now that the chances against Leicester are equal, I had to laugh. Now, after we won, they ask me whether we can win the entire Europa League. Of course, we want to go as far as possible, but with our background, it is a miracle where we are now.”
