Slavia defeated Sparta 3-0 in 292nd Prague Derby and qualified for the Final of MOL Cup!
Manager Trpišovský was missing Ševčík, Coufal and Zmrhal and Slavia thus started with Frydrych as right back, Hušbauer in the centre and Mick van Buren as a lone striker supported by Masopust and Olayinka.

Less than 2 weeks after the 1-1 draw in league derby Slavia started way better in the Cup and created three chances during opening 10 minutes. Just after 3 minutes Heča made his first save against our captain Hušbauer who managed to turn around with the ball in the box. Van Buren’s shot was blocked 7 minutes into the game and finally Olayinka fired from inside the box after nice combination between Masopust and Van Buren, but Heča was on his position again.

After 16 minutes Olayinka and Král combined on the left wing and the other one managed to send nice cross but Souček headed the ball wide on the far post.

Slavia thus took lead on 25th minute. Following a tackle on Olayinka Hušbauer could take a free kick from 24 metres, Tomáš Souše found the ball inside the box and headed it in to make it 1-0. After half an hour Král could add second for Slavia after another corner kick but headed the ball wide on the near post.

Sparta got into their first chance at the end of the opening half but Hložek’s strong effort from the brink of the box was blocked by Deli.

The red-whites scored second goal in the added time. Mick van Bured headed the ball into the woodwork after another corner and Tomáš Souček managed to rebound it into the net in a duel with Štetina. Shortly afterwards Sparta midfielder Frýdek saw red card following his sliding tackle on Hušbauer but VAR revoked this decision and Frýdek was given only a yellow.

After the break the red-whites started better again and soon created two big chances. At first Heča managed to block Hušbauer’s effort and shortly afterwards performed brilliant flying save against Ngadeu’s header.

But Slavia managed to add third anyway. After Sparta’s mistake in the centre of the pitch van Buren could go alone on Heča, on the box he found Lukáš Masopust on his right hand and our offensive midfielder sent the ball into an open net. Shortly afterwards Drchal could score for Sparta but his cross shot missed left post of our goal.

The home side was fully in charge for the rest of the game and created many chances, but none of them resulted in fourth goal. In the added time Heča showed another good save against Traoré’s shot deflected by Moberg Karlsson.

Nevertheless, Slavia qualified for the MOL Cup final and can defend the trophy from 2017/18 season. The red-whites will face Baník Ostrava in the final match.
