Ostrava - Slavia

Two-goal lead at the break, one goal behind in the second half, equalizer in the 88th minute despite two red cards and a saved penalty in the added time framed the dramatic game at Baník.
With less than 4 minutes into the game Slavia created their first chance when Alexander Bah sent a beautiful cross from an unorthodox position on the left wing, Lukáš Masopust headed inside of the box, but Budínský made a good save to block his effort on the goal line.

Two minutes later Masopust received a long pass by Stanciu on the right side, made two feints and fired with his right foot, but the ball flew over the crossbar. On the other side Kuzmanović appeared in a good chance but headed the ball wide from inside the box.

It was an an end-to-end fare in the opening half and Baník created another chance 17 minutes into the game, but Mandous managed to block Ndefe’s shot from 20 metres on his left post. Three minutes later Masopust set up Schranz with a long through pass, but his low shot was saved by Budínský again.

Slavia opened the score after 24 minutes. Ousou set up Olayinka with a long pass, the Nigerian midfielder passed the ball to his left inside the box and sliding Ivan Schranz squeezed the ball through Ostrava goalkeeper.

Only 5 minutes later Daniel Samek got enough space on the left side of the box and passed the ball to Tomáš Holeš who gave Slavia a two-goal cushion with his well-placed effort with a touch of the far post.

But Baník managed to come back into the game quickly after the break. In the 47th minute Almási managed to outjump Slavia defence after a cross from the right wing and his header fell beyond Mandous who could not reach it in the top left corner of his goal.

And the Red-Whites got into even worse situation with Oscar being sent off 6 minutes into the second half. With Slavia down to ten men Baník started to dominate and Musa Sor could equalize in the 64th minute, but Mandous denied him with his effort from inside the box.

But Baník managed to equalize anyway. In the 70th minute Svozil passed the ball to Filip Kaloč, he found enough space to shoot and sent the ball into the top right corner beyond Mandous’ reach.

The home side managed to come from behind 10 minutes later. After a corner kick Almási headed the ball on goal, Mandous could not reach it and Jan Kuchta stopped the shot with his hand on a goal line. Kuchta received red card, Slavia were down to 9 men, Baník was awarded a penalty and Almási converted from the spot. 3-2.

With only 8 men on the field Slavia could hardly play like their usual selves, but in the 88th minute the Red-Whites were awarded a free kick, Linger passed the ball to Tomáš Holeš and he scored his second of the game with a low shot through the wall. The game was all square again with less than two minutes to play in the regular time.

But Baník could add yet another twist to the game in the added time. Sor collided with Ousou and the referee pointed to the spot for the second time. It was Almási again who stepped up for the penalty, but Aleš Mandous guessed the side right and saved his effort.

After two red cards and two penalties Slavia drew 3-3 in the last game of the year 2021 after 7 straight league wins with no conceded goal. Aleš Mandous made 4th longest streak with no conceded goal in the history of the Czech league with 724 minutes.

The Red-Whites are on top of the league table 1 point ahead of Viktoria Plzeň and 3 points ahead of Sparta.
