Slavia failed to score in Bordeaux, conceded twice and suffered a second defeat in the 2018/19 Europa League season. The red-whites improved their performance in last 30 minutes but paid for their lack of productivity.
Due to upcoming weekend game against strong PSG, Bordeaux coach Éric Bedouet decided to spare few stable members of starting eleven including Briand, with Kamano or Sankhare on the bench. Slavia, on the other hand, went to the match in full strength with Matoušek as a lone striker and right back Vladimír Coufal who has returned after one-month pause caused by a muscle injury.

Girondins created their first opportunity just seven minutes into the game by well-placed shot from the free kick near the penalty area. Youssouf’s effort forced Kolář to make a nimble save.

Close to the 20th minute Souček passed the ball onto Stoch, who advanced through the center of the pitch and tried to shoot, but his ambitious attempt wasn’t accurate.

A few minutes later Tchouaméni got forward on the left wing and addressed a low swift center on Kornelius inside the box, but Danish striker failed to finish in front of the open net.

Another great opportunity to open the score had Youssouf on 32nd minute, but Kolář saved his dangerous volley from the border of the box thanks to his perfect reflex.

A few moments later Miroslav Stoch send his shot just centimetres above the crossbar on the other side. Both teams thus went to the dressing rooms without a single goal.

But the goalless score did not last long. Just four minutes after the start of the second half, Kalu sent a swift ball from the free kick from the left side and after a few rebounds in the penalty area De Préville fired the ball on the far post of Slavia net to make it 1-0.

Slavia did not give up and tried to equalize as soon as possible. On 68th minute, Sýkora passed the ball to Coufal, who sent a good cross precisely on Souček’s head, but Slavia captain missed the post by a few decimetres.

Another opportunity for the red-whites came after a good combination on the left wing. Tomáš Souček advanced with the ball towards the box and addressed a quick pass through the penalty area to find completely unattended Sýkora, who however failed to send the ball behind Costil in front of a half-open net.

This was Slavia biggest opportunity which could secure them early qualification, but the red-whites have not found a recipe to score in the last minutes of the game. On the other side, they conceded second in the added time when Sabaly passed a swift ball near the spot and Jules Koundé had quite simple job to make it 2-0.

The red-whites thus suffered second defeat in Group C, but they remain second in the table after Copenhagen 0-1 defeat to Zenit. Slavia thus need at least one point from the last game home against Zenit to secure qualification regardless on the other game.
