Slavia - Zbrojovka Brno
PRAGUE/EDEN ARENA - Slavia managed their opening night of the spring season 2016 against Zbrojovka Brno and moved to the fourth spot in the SYNOT liga table. With four new signings in Dušan Uhrin’s starting eleven it was one of them, Muris Mešanovič, who opened the score with captain Jiří Bílek confirming the lead before the break.
Mešanovič, Železník, Bořil and Hušbauer – four winter-signings were part of starting eleven with Barák entering the game as a substitute in 88th minute. Slavia set the pace from the very beginning supported by more than 12 thousand spectators in Eden Arena and it was former Zlín’s striker Lukáš Železník who could score his first Slavia goal only five minutes into the first half. But after Zmrhal’s cross Zbrojovka’s goalkeeper Melichárek was the first to steal the ball from the air.

Slavia then took the lead through Mešanovič who found the ball inside the penalty area to fire it under the crossbar. Exactly 14 minutes and 1 second was enough for Bosnian striker to score his first league-goal in red-white jersey.

Home captain Jiří Bílek then doubled the lead in 42nd minute deflecting Mešanovič’s header towards the right post. Zbrojovka’s first dangerous effort came seven minutes inside the second half through Zavadil, but Berkovec clawed his shot from under the crossbar.

Both teams managed to score one more goal in the second half, however both disallowed by the referee. Železník was waved for offside when deflecting Souček’s effort and Jovanovič’s header few minutes later came after a foul on Železník.

Slavia thus successfully started their spring campaign and hope for Europa-competition spot. Next week they travel to Jihlava, next home-game is played on 28th February against Baník Ostrava.
