Slavia - Zlín
EDEN ARENA/PRAGUE - Slavia scored an early opener which promised an exciting game. However, plenty of missed opportunities followed and the sewn-ones were happy to defend their 1-0 home win against Zlín.
Slavia still missed injured goalkeeper Martin Berkovec, so Jiří Pavenka enjoyed his first game at the home stadium and the support of the North stand. Not only the captain Martin Latka returned to the starting eleven, also Levan Kenia took his place as the playmaker in the centre of the field supporting Milan Škoda in the attack.
It was a highly encouraging start for Slavia as Souček headed in the opener is 6th minute. The first goal was unfortunately also the last one, even though the first half brought plenty of opportunities.
Jaromír Zmrhal set up a great chance for Milan Škoda but our striker hit in 21st minute only the goalkeeper. Levan Kenia’s first effort missed the goal and a minute later the Georgian midfielder hit the woodwork.
Slavia could regret all the missed opportunities as Zlín picked up the pace in the second half but Pavlenka defended his first clean sheet in red-white jersey.
Dušan Uhrin had to watch the game from the stands as a result of his disagreement with the referee in the previous match. The assistant coach Petr Čuhel, who took his place, admitted that Slavia didn’t play an excellent match. “We are satisfied with three points and with the performance in the first half, but not so much with the rest. We put ourselves undress pressure and we should have scored a second goal to calm down,” said Čuhel.
