Win against Plzeň as Czech champions!
Slavia needed one point from the game against Plzeň to secure their 21st league title, but the result played no significant role at the end. With Sparta losing two points in Liberec the Red-whites could celebrate the title already before the game.
But Slavia started better anyway and took the lead only six minutes into the game. Bah’s cross rebounded to Tomáš Holeš on the far post and and our midfielder fired it through Plzeň goalkeeper.
Only three minutes later Plzeň were close to an equaliser when Káčer’s effort was blocked by Kolář and the same player then hit post with his rebound.
After 14 minutes Mick van Buren was brought down by Staněk inside of the box after a long cross from the right wing and Slavia were awarded a penalty. However, Simon Deli failed to score from the spot when Staněk guessed the side right and blocked his low shot. Mick van Buren then fired wide from the rebound.
But Slavia managed to double the lead soon anyway. In the 22nd minute van Buren set up Jan Bořil on the left side of the box, our captain’s effort was deflected by Kaša and the ball fell over Staněk and into the back of the net.
Slavia dominated the game and could add even more goals before the break. Bah fired in the 26th minute and Staněk had to block his effort in full stretch. Six minutes later Mick van Buren could go alone on Staněk after a great long pass by Ševčík but sent his effort over the crossbar.
On the other side Falta could progress alone on Kolář with 37 minutes on the clock, but his cross shot missed the far post. From the counter-attack, Masopust latched onto a pass on the right side of the box and Staněk had to show a decent save against his deflected shot.
In the last minute of the opening half Beauguel got into yet another chance for Plzeň after a set piece, but Kolář stretched his left leg and kicked his effort off.
Plzeň were caught napping on the beginning of the second half again. After his series of chances in the opening half Mick van Buren got the ball on the edge of the box and precisely found the gap between Plzeň goalkeeper and his right post to make it 3-0.
Plzeň was able to pull one back in the 68th minute. Slavia lost the ball in the middle of the field. Káčer took it all the way to the edge of the penalty area, passed it to Čermák who quickly returned the ball and Káčer finished precisely to the far post. 3-1.
But Slavia responded quickly and scored their fourth goal of the match just 4 minutes later! After Nicolae Stanciu won the ball on the opponent’s half, he sent a perfect cross to the far post. He found Alexander Bah perfectly and the Danish defender finished comfortably with his head!
In the 84th minute, the Red-whites added a fifth goal! Peter Olayinka took the ball from the left wing to the edge of the box and passed it to the middle to Nicolae Stanciu. Stanciu shot with a volley and sent it precisely to the right post. The goalkeeper simply could not reach it! 5-1.
