Week 5: Dress rehearsal against Dynamo and return to Prague

MARBELLA - Fifth week of mid-season training meant two last friendlies before the league returns. Slavia faced two European opponents. Starting on Monday against Lech Poznań the red-whites defeated the Polish team as well as the Ukrainian Dynamo Kyiv on Friday.
Slavia weren’t afraid of the Polish champions and scored the opener in 4th minute. Josef Hušbauer anticipated Lech’s pass and set up a great opportunity for Milan Škoda who didn’t reject it and netted the first goal. In 40th minute Hušbauer outplayed four defenders and successfully aimed for the far post – 2-0. Slavia replaced the goalkeepers and Kownacki surprised Pavlenka in 49th minute scoring the only goal of Lech.

Slavia added their third one after a penalty shot in 69th minute. Kaminski tackled Vukadinović in the box and Kenia could execute the penalty. The goalkeeper parried Kenia’s shot at the right bottom corner of the goal but only towards Slavia’s player. The Georgian midfielder fixed his miss and netted the 3-1 goal.

The head coach Dušan Uhrin explained that the training intensity would decrease during the last week and his team enjoyed a trip to Gibraltar before the dress rehearsal against Dynamo Kyiv. The goalless first half scared all Slavia fans as the striker Milan Škoda had to be replaced after Dragović’s harsh tackle. Škoda’s injury isn’t luckily serious. He could, however, miss the first match against Brno.

Dynamo replaced every player but the goalkeeper, Slavia started the second half well and thanks to the active pressing scored in 52nd minute when Zmrhal anticipated Dynamo’s distribution and his left footed shot opened the score. Muris Mešanović also read the opponent’s strategy well, got the ball and face to face with Shovkovskiy netted Slavia’s second goal. Dynamo answered in 85th minute, Miguel Velosa’s left-footed shot ended in the nett. Slavia defeated Dynamo 2-1 in the dress rehearsal and leaved Spain unbeaten.

“I am glad because we had outstanding training conditions and perfect weather. We won all four matches and we will see if we can play the same way in the league. I am satisfied that all the new players fit into the team which is crucial. I am looking forward to the match against Brno and I hope that the players do too. I hope for fifteen thousand fans but we will see,” said Dušan Uhrin after the team landed in Prague.
