APOEL are our UCL Play-off opponents

PRAGUE/NYON – Slavia will face APOEL from Cyprus in the UEFA Champions League Play-off. The first leg will be played away in Nicosia on 15th August, the second leg home in Eden on 23rd August.
Slavia were in the group of unseeded teams before the draw in Nyon with possible opponents Olympiacos (GRE), Celtic FC (SCO), FC Copenhagen (DEN), NK Maribor (SLO) and APOEL (CYP). After all, the champions of Cyprus will be the last obstacle on our way to the Champions League.

The first leg will be played away on Cyprus on Tuesday 15th August, 8:45 pm CET. APOEL stadium is located in the Greek part of the city of Nicosia. The second leg home in Eden is scheduled on Wednesday, 23rd August also at 8:45 pm.

APOEL resides in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia. With 25 titles they are the most successful club on the island. They have also won the FA Cup 20 times and the Super Cup 13 times. In the season 2011/12 APOEL qualified for the quarter-final of the Champions League where they were eliminated by Real Madrid. Last season they played the quarter-final of the Europa League where they did not manage to overplay Anderlecht.

Home of the club is the GSP Stadium with capacity of 22 859 seats opened in 1999. During the last season average appearance in the home league was 7 126 spectators.

In this season, APOEL eliminated Dudelange (LUX) in the second qual. round after 1-0 victory both home and away. In the third round the club faced Romanian side Viitorul losing 0-1 away but qualifying into the Play-off after a 4-0 home win.

Portugese defender Nuno Morais belongs to the club legends playing for APOEL since 2007. Striker Igor de Camargo used to play in German Bundesliga and Belgian Standard Li?ge, Argentinian midfielder Facundo Bertoglio (ex-Dynamo Kyiv) was one of the best players during the last season.

Georgis Donis became manager of APOEL just on 27th July 2017, coaching the club during their 4-0 victory against Viitorul.

Win in Boleslav. Chytil on target, Chaloupek scores his first

Slavia claimed a 3:1 victory away at Mlada Boleslav in the 7th round of the Chance Liga. Mojmir Chytil opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, the home side equalized at the start of the second half from a retaken penalty. Stepan Chaloupek struck the winner with his debut goal for Slavia, and Ivan Schranz sealed the result late on.

Captains’ headers secured the comeback against Pardubice

Slavia defeated Pardubice 3:1 in the 6th round of the Chance Liga. The visitors opened the scoring, but from then on only the Red-Whites found the net. Specifically, the captains Tomas Holes and Jan Boril with their headers, before Vasil Kusej sealed the result. All this in front of 18,297 fans.
