Farewell with pride

PRAGUE/EDEN ARENA - Slavia women wanted to save their face in the second leg of UEFA Women Champions League against Lyon. And they did indeed! After a harsh 1-9 defeat in France Slavia played spectacular 0-0 draw home in Eden.
Barbora Votíková returned into the Slavia´s net and she was the one who had to prove her qualities in the first place. Hegerberg (who had scored ten goals in five previous UWCL games) missed the post nine minutes into the opening half but some five minutes later Votíková already had to save difficult efforts by Perisset and Hegerberg again.

On the other side, one of the biggest chances of Slavia came just six minutes from the kick-off when Tereza Kožárová, returning after a one-game stop, tried to lob Lyon´s goalkeeper. Bouhaddi, however, managed to make an important save.

At the very end of the first half Kožárová again could benefit from Benýrová´s pass but Bouhaddi managed to claw her header with a flying safe. Generally, the first half belonged to the keepers - Votíková showed her skills against such strikers as Thomis or Hergeberg.

Even though Lyon recorded 30 shots on and off goal, Slavia held firm in the second half and did not let Lyon to get their usual show started. The sewn-ones are thus leaving this season of UEFA Women Champions League with pride after a well-organised performance against one of the best teams in the world.

After aggregate 9-1 win, Olympique Lyon will now face Paris in the semi-finals.
