Hušbauer´s strike against Maccabi voted Czech goal of the year

Josef Hušbauer long-range strike against Maccabi Tel-Aviv away has been voted goal of the year 2017 in the Czech Republic. The traditional contest is organized annualy by the TV channel CT Sport.
Each month selected goals from Czech professional leagues, European competitions and national team compete for spectators’ votes to become goal of the month. Winners of all months then meet each other to be awarded a goal of the year title.

Josef Hušbauer scored 6 goals for Slavia in 2017. First one in February against Příbram, important one against Sparta on September, but the most important goals came against Maccabi in UEFA Europa League in November.

In the last minutes of the first half against Maccabi away, Hušbauer latched onto a ball several meters behind the box and fired it into the top corner of Rajković’ net. Later in the second half Slavia no 10 added second to make it 2-0.

“It was a quick break at the end of the opening half. There was an open space in front of me and I believed I could hit the target. I did and it was an important goal for us,” Hušbauer remembers.

Slavia no 10 believes there are another similar goals waiting. “I am still quite young, there are six or seven years in front of me. I would not be angry if I’d score one such goal every year,” added Hušbauer.

Slavia defeated Bohemians in front of 18,992 spectators at Fortuna Arena and continue to lead the Chance Liga table. The Vršovice derby was decided in the first half, with goals from Tomáš Chorý and Štěpán Chaloupek (the latter deflected in by Okeke). In the second half, Lukáš Provod scored a stunning strike, while Zeman pulled one back for the visitors.
