Prague – Jaroslav Šihlavý replaced Dušan Uhrin as Slavia’s head coach. Former player of the sewn-ones and member of Odbor přátel has signed a contract until summer 2018.
“Jaroslav Šilhavý is an excellent coach and he was one of our top candidates form the very beginning. I would like to thank him as well as Dukla Prague for the whole agreement,” said the chairman of the board Jaroslav Tvrdík. “I am honoured to coach a club with such a long history and great ambitions,” stated new coach Jaroslav Šilhavý.
Jaroslav Šihlavý, the legend of domestic league, was born on 3 November 1961. No one has played more league matches than him. The former defender collected 465 starts and scored 26 goals. Starting in Chotěšov, Šilhavý debuted in the first league 1979 for Plzeň. Years 1990-1993 belonged to Slavia and Šilhavý played 185 matches in the red-white shirt.
Starting as an assistant in Viktoria Žižkov, the experienced player transformed into a successful coach and lead Liberec to their First League triumph in 2011/2012 season. Liberec also conceded to the round of 32 in the 2013/2014 Europa League season. But that was not the only international experience for Slavia’s new leader, since he was the Czech national team assistant coach from 2003 until 2009. He started the 2016/2017 season coaching Dukla Prague.
The former head coach Dušan Uhrin ended in Slavia due to the unsatisfactory results. “We would like to thank him, as well at the sports director Josef Jinoch for all the work, they have done for Slavia,” said the general director Martin Krob.
“We are highly disturbed by the attitude of some players. You have to play with your whole heart and give it 100 % if you want to be in Slavia and that didn’t happen in previous matches. We expect significant changes from the new team management,” added Jaroslav Trvdík.
