Josef Hušbauer leaving the red-whites
Josef Hušbauer spent the second half of 2019/20 season on loan to SG Dynamo Dresden in 2. Bundesliga. In 10 games he scored one goal and added one assist but could not avoid Dynamo relegation.
Hušbauer joined Slavia from city rivals Sparta four and a half years ago with fresh experience from his spell in Italian side Cagliari. He became one of few players who captained both teams - Slavia and Sparta - in Prague Derby. In 122 league games for the red and whites he scored 22 goals (5 of them in 2019/20) and added 33 assists. He won all three recent Slavia titles (2017, 2019, 2020) and two Czech FA cups (2018, 2019).
30-year old midfielder made 25 appearances for Slavia in European competitions. In 2019 he reached UEFA Europa League quarter-finals with Slavia, last season he made 5 caps in UEFA Champions League group stage. In 2017 his shot from distance against Maccabi Tel Aviv in Europa League was awarded as Goal of the Year in the Czech Republic.
“We have won almost everything we could. We qualified for the Champions League group stage where we played equal games. We made it into the quarter-finals of Europa League. I fulfilled my big dream and I am grateful Slavia made it possible for me,” Hušbauer said.
“Many people say that your teammates are just your teammates, nothing more. But I must say that the atmosphere in the team was something special from the very beginning. I made a lot of true friends here. The bond will be here forever,” he continued.
“When I joined Slavia, it was not an easy move for me. I wanted to play regularly again, and that was a real challenge for me. I wanted to help the famous club to rise again and first moments were really difficult, but thanks to the people who believed in me I managed it. Those four years belong to the most beautiful in my career. Together we made unbelievable things happen and I am proud of it. Slavia became my home during those years and I always did maximum to contribute to their performance,” Hušbauer added.
