Miroslav Stoch: Not a good result, but nothing is lost

NICOSIA – Just few hours after his name was added to the line-up, Miroslav Stoch listened to the UCL anthem at GSP stadium in Nicosia. His very first game for Slavia was, however, far from ideal. Despite his effort, the red & whites lost 0-2 to APOEL and made their way into the UEFA Champions League much more difficult.
You have had probably different idea about your premiere game in Slavia?
“Of course I have had different picture about my first game. The result is not good at the moment, but I think that nothing is lost. We did not catch the start and they punished us. On the other hand it is quite enough to create three or four goal chances in such a difficult condition. But we did not have enough luck or weren’t calm enough in finishing. When we did create chances away, I am not afraid that we would not create them home.”

How do you see the odds for the second leg?
“I firmly hope that there will be great atmosphere waiting for us home in Eden. APOEL gained an advantage, but it is just a half time, we can’t be extra disappointed. Of course everybody is sorry about the result, we’ve put everything into the game but they punished us for our mistakes. I believe the next Wednesday we will punish them.”

What is the reason for such a bad start?
“We all knew that APOEL is really experienced team from previous seasons in European cups. In contrary, most of our team did not have such experience. It could be the reason. Opening minutes are very important in such games and we saw it with our own eyes. Just ten minutes and we were 0-2 down.”

You have been named into the squad just after few trainings, how did it feel?
“We have been talking with the manager already on Saturday. Danny was not ready, if he was, I would start from the bench and I knew it. But on the match day the manager said that I am going to play from the first minute. Of course I was looking forward to playing… Whatever, maybe it is bad beginning for happy ending. I believe it will be so.”
