Slavia to meet Villareal, Maccabi and Astana

PRAGUE/MONACO - Slavia will play with Villareal CF, Maccabi Tel Aviv and FC Astana in UEFA Europa League Group A.
The draw in Monaco sent Slavia directly to the group A with interesting and difficult opponents and long distances to travel. The red & whites will face the easternmost club compeing in UEFA Europa League FC Astana, the flight to the capital of Kazakhstan takes almost 8 hours.

In the second round of the Champions League group stage, Slavia Prague were defeated 0–3 away to Inter Milan at the San Siro. Jindřich Staněk was beaten twice by Lautaro Martínez, a veteran of the sides’ memorable 1–1 draw six years ago, while Denzel Dumfries added a third for the hosts.

Slavia kicked off their Champions League group stage campaign with a 2–2 draw against Norwegian champions Bodø/Glimt. Jindřich Trpišovský’s side led by two goals — both scored by Youssoupha Mbodji — but the visitors managed to equalize late in the game. Goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk also made a crucial save from the penalty spot while the score was 1–0.
