Top Scorer of All Time in Red and White Again

Legendary forward Josef Bican enters the pitch in traditional red-white shirt. Slavia fans can enjoy another historic moment on newly colorized picture.

“The picture was taken between 1940 and 1943 according to policeman standing next to the entrance and the adjustment of the shirt,” says sports historian Vladimír Zápotocký from Slavia Museum.

Not only Josef Bican - the best Slavia goalscorer of all time - can be seen on the photo. The man to his right with moustache, hat and braces is Slavia kitman Franta Polťák. The policeman to Bican’s left is Franta Podroužek, former Slavia athlete and European champion among traffic policemen from London 1936. He also played in two movies written by another Slavia fan, scriptwriter Jaroslav Žák.

Another issue was to determine the colours of the stands. “The chairs are typical “tonetky”, bentwood chairs made by Thonet company. Wooden benches in the VIP and press sector of the main stand were painted light blue in the colour of Slavia socks,” added Vladimír Zápotocký.
