Vladimír Coufal: First summer signing

Slavia announced their first summer reinforcement. Right-back or defensive midfielder Vladimír Coufal signed a 3-year deal with the red & whites.
“We managed to sign a player who had played the Europa League Group stage three times in just last four years. He was playing difficult games against strong opponents. He is very well-equipped winger and I am glad that we could strengthen our squad facing a challenging autumn season,” Slavia manager Jindřich Trpišovský said.

“I am glad I can be here, it’s a great feeling. I want to return the title to Slavia and I would like to play the Champions League here, to manage it for the fans above all. I have played here in Eden several times as an opponent and the atmosphere has always been great. It means a lot for me being here in Slavia. It is the club with biggest tradition in the Czech Republic and I am glad I can be part of it and I can write its history,” Vladimír Coufal said.

Vladimír Coufal will wear shirt with vacant no. 5 (as he has in Slovan Liberec). The number previously belonged to Norwegian defender Per-Egil Flo who asked for a different number after the season.

Vladimír Coufal (*1992) started his youth career in Baník Ostrava and tried senior football for the first time in FC Hlučín in the 2nd Czech league (2010-2012). In 2012 he spent half a year in another 2nd-tier club SFC Opava. From 2012-13 on Coufal continued his career in Slovan Liberec becoming one of the key players and club captain. The 25-year old defender/midfielder has 118 starts in the Czech 1st league (3 goals and 8 assists), 31 games in the UEFA Europa League (3 goals) and 2 caps for the Czech national team (90 minutes against Nigeria in June 2018). In 2017-18 Czech league our new reinforcement did not miss a single minute in Liberec shirt scoring 2 goals and adding 3 assists. He was also the 2nd best runner of the league and 3rd best sprinter.
