Slavia - FC Midtjylland
Slavia drew 0-0 home against FC Midtjylland in the first game of the UEFA Champions League Play-off.
Manager Trpišovský made 3 changes into a successful starting line-up from the last game against Teplice. Hovorka replaced Kúdela as centre-back next to young David Zima, Tecl started in front instead of Musa and Masopust appeared on the list of starting players in place of Provod.

Slavia payed their price to the importance of the game in the opening minutes making several mistakes in the build-up, but the red and whites managed to create first opportunities in the game though. 14 minutes into the game Olayinka returned the ball from the goal line on the edge of the box and Jan Bořil found an open space to shoot, but his effort in the middle of the goal was blocked by Hansen.

Midtjylland were dangerous especially from their counter-attacks. In 29th minute Mabill was passing the ball into a good chance to Kaba, but Tomáš Holeš came with his slide at the last minute and managed to clear the ball.

Five minutes later Nico Stanciu could execute a set piece from 20 metres on the left side, but his effort missed the far post.

Tactical battle with prevailing defence continued into the second half and both teams struggled to get into a bigger chance. After 58 minutes Midtjylland could break the deadlock when Kaba latched onto a long ball, his strong header was blocked by Kolář’s great save and Mabill’s fired his rebound from 7 metres wide.

Slavia opted for a first change shortly afterwards, Musa replaced Tecl in front, but it was Midtjylland again who could score in 63rd minute. The ball rebounded to Dreyer after a long throw-in and Midtjylland forward could fire from the edge of the box, but his shot flew high over the crossbar.

After 79 minutes Slavia got into a promising opportunity after throw-in too when Coufal got the ball from Olayinka on the right side of the box, but our right back opted for a back pass instead of shot and the ball din not find any of his teammates.

Shortly afterwards Kaba and Mabill could go two on one, but Coufal managed to block Kaba’s pass. A minute later Sviatchenko fired from inside the box and Kolář performed another great save against his firm shot. In 89th minute Stanciu sent his cross from corner to Zima, but his volley from the edge of the box was blocked and Bořil fired wide just a second later.

In the added time Slavia put pressure on the Danes and created several promising opportunities, but Midtjylland could have final word three minutes into the added time when Kaba’s firm cross was deflected by Zima and Kolář had to make his third great save of the night.

It is thus all square before the game in Denmark. Slavia drew 0-0 home with Midtjylland, the second leg will be played in Herning on Wednesday, 30 September, from 9 pm.
