Embracing New Challenges: Matěj Jurásek Reflects on His Move
Strolling through the upper floor of the training center in Marbella, the morning sun shines brightly. Below, the sounds of an ongoing training session fill the air. Jurásek observes for the last time, his boots packed away, thoughts drifting toward the rocky horizon. By evening, he´ll depart, embarking on his first experience in a foreign league—the demanding English Championship, where 24 clubs vie for promotion to the Premier League.
What are your current thoughts?
„It´s a mix of emotions, but the positive ones definitely prevail. Something is ending, and something new is beginning."
Why did you accept Norwich´s offer, and what do you expect from this new chapter?
„I´m young; I need to play, accumulate minutes, and continually progress. At Slavia, I wasn´t getting optimal game time, which is why I decided to embrace this new challenge."
With whom did you discuss your decision to transfer?
„I made the decision largely on my own, with input from my agent and my father, who shared my perspective. We all agreed, except for my mom. She was sad that I´d be even farther from home than before. She shed some tears, but I´ll visit soon."
Are you prepared for your first football step abroad?
„I´m really looking forward to it. It will definitely push me out of my comfort zone, but if you want to improve in life, you have to embrace such challenges."
You´ve spent several years at Slavia. Which moments will stay with you?
„Certainly, my debut in the red and white against Opava and my first start at home against Zbrojovka Brno. I´ll also remember the goal against AC Milan, the goals against Baník Ostrava, and the decisive strike in the match with Zorya that helped the team into the Europa League. Regarding AC Milan, even though it was clear we wouldn´t overturn the tie, I felt the fans celebrated my goal as if it were a winner. I´ll never forget that moment."
May 2023, cup final at Letná... What comes to mind?
„An incredible experience, especially since I started the match. I watched the rest from the bench; it was dramatic, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was my first major trophy with Slavia, and we celebrated it properly in the locker room, especially with Ondřej Kričfaluši, a good friend of mine."
As Jurásek embarks on this new adventure with Norwich City, he carries with him the experiences and memories from his time at Slavia Prague, ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
