We wasted the first half, but the storm at the break helped

Tomáš Holeš scored the only Slavia goal at Feyenoord, but the Red-Whites lost 1-2 when two Feyenoord goals arrived at the beginning of the opening half.

On the reason of the loss

“We clearly wasted the first half. We did not run, we failed to be aggressive, and we did not create any chances. In contrary, we faced one attack after another. We must blame our performance in the opening half. Our opponent put us under pressure, they were supported by the full stadium, we could not cope with it. It was very difficult for us in the defence.”

On Feyenoord pressure in the first half

“It does not happen often to us, usually the aggressivity and running are our weapons. I just wanted the first half to end, we were not able to grow back into the game.”

On his performance as centre-back

“You can always do better, there are always mistakes. I am not sure now, but there are always ways how to prevent your opponent from scoring.”

On the events at the break

“Of course, there was a storm in the dressing room. We caught it from the coaches, but we expected them to do so. It could only help us because in the second half we showed a totally different performance. That was how we were supposed to play. The substitutions also helped us, we were running more and managed to put them under pressure.”

On his goal

“We talked to each other with Petr Ševčík before the set piece, I told him to play it on the near post. He managed to hit it really well and I thumped it on the far post. It is a pity the goal did not help us, and we could not bring home any points. It was quite early in the second half, and I believed we would equalize.”

On the Prague Derby on Sunday

”We must forget this defeat and learn everything that could lift us for the next time. The first half was a blow, but I must praise the team for the second one. We must build on it and show a similar performance in the Derby.”
